Faith from others. (John 4:46-47)
The nobleman’s faith.
Last time we had talked about how the Galilean's and the Judean’s had faith for the wrong reasons. Their faith was based on what they saw, the signs and wonders... Now we are going to talk about the nobleman and see where his faith came from. Did he have faith because of the healing of his son, or from somewhere else.
46 So Jesus came again to Cana of Galilee where He had made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman whose son was sick at Capernaum. 47 When he heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and implored Him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death.
46 So Jesus came again to Cana of Galilee where He had made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman whose son was sick at Capernaum.
Ok so we have been given 2 location. Cana of Galilee and Capernuam which was about 20 miles to the east. Cana sat about about 2,000 feet above see level while Capernuam was right on the sea of Galilee at about 680 feet below sea level. So this nobleman had a 2680 foot climb to reach Jesus. We don’t know too much about him other than his title of “nobleman.” Which could also be translated royal official. He was probably a high person in the kings court. Lots of money. Lots of power. But he also had a son who was near death.
47 When he heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and implored Him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death.
there is something very interesting that this verse tells us about this nobleman’s faith. It came by others. Notice that it says, “When he heard that Jesus had come...” Others had told him about Jesus. This is where his faith started. No this that people are around you, listening to you, watching you. Are they going to get a good picture of who Jesus is by what you say and do or a bad picture???
I pray that you don’t miss the opportunities that God is putting before you even today and tomorrow with sharing your faith. Be bold and share about what Jesus has done in your life.
What did this man do after he was told about Jesus? He came to Jesus... It is our job to share the truth with others. Then the Holy Spirit will do the rest. It doesn’t matter who you are, or what you know of the Bible. What matters is, has Jesus touched your life? Then share that with others!
